Date & Time : 30th Apr 2011 : 8-30 AM To 11:30 AM : Season 5 : Play-Day No 3
Pitch & Conditions: Day started with temperatures on the slightly chillier side but gradually improved to a gorgeous 65F "English summer" day. Rain that came in torrents last week, stayed away. Thursday's rain made the outfield very wet. Pitch had some moisture but held up well to offer decent bounce and carry. Max of 12 players showed up.
Highlights of the day:
1. Naveed decided to show up for one match which was a good surprise for all, and Swagat got his deserved punishment from Naveed.
2. Vivek M's good form with the bat.
3. Wet outfield meant only two boundaries were scored in three matches.
4. Shail's ripper that pitched well outside off and took Aamir's leg stump out.
5. Vivek2's brilliant catch diving forward to get Mukund out.
6. Mukund not making the most of a second batting chance, getting out first ball.
7. All bowlers right on the money straight away, with only four wides in total given away in three matches.
8. Swagat's Haldiram Gulabjamuns and Rasgullas.
9. BJCC spirit well on display.

Match 1: 6 Players per team; 12 Overs

Kannan 20, Parijat 13, Vivek M. 2 Wickets
Result: Kalpesh XI wins by 1 wicket.
A very tightly contested game which went all the way to the last over. Shail XI won the toss and decided to bat. Ranjan and Anil opened the innings. Ranjan played some delightful strokes in Naveed's second over to get the runs flowing. Naveed came back strongly and got Ranjan with his last ball. Shail partnered with Vivek. Vivek was his usual belligerent mood and got a string of twos. The two built a good middle order partnership. With Nathan chipping in with a boundary the score finished at a very healthy 49 in 12 overs.
Nathan rocked the boat of Kalpesh XI by taking the dangerous Aamir out cheaply. Ranjan made more inroads with the wicket of Naveed in the third over to leave the chasing team at 11/2 and facing down the barrel. When Vivek took the wicket of Kalpesh in the fifth over, with the score reading 23/3, Kalpesh XI had a fight on hand. Parijat then paired with Kannan. The pair played sensibly without taking undue risk. With 9 to win in two overs, and with two well set batsmen, Kalpesh's team looked set for a win. The 11th over bowled by Anil had another twist when he got the solid Kannan out to leave the team 5 to get in the last over with only Parijat left. Parijat got the runs with one ball to spare. Shail XI had dropped Parijat in the 9th over bowled by Swagat that cost them the match in the end.
Match 2: 5 Players per team; 10 Overs
Parijat 11, Aamir 8, Ranjan and Nathan 2 Wickets each
Vivek 17n.o
Result: Shail XI wins by 3 wickets.
Kalpesh XI won the toss and elected to bat. Aamir opened with Mukund. The condition of the pitch did not allow Aamir to play his strokes freely. Shail XI team bowled tight four overs giving away only 12 runs with Mukund's wicket. Aamir fell to Anil in the fifth over when Shail showed brilliant glove work to stump him inches out of the crease. That left the batting team in disarray at 16/2. Kannan and Parijat once again did the repair work for their team. Nathan bowled Kannan in the eighth over to leave Parijat as the lone crusader. Mukund was given another chance to bat as his team was one batsman short but he failed to capitalise falling to Ranjan first ball of the last over. Parijat did well to bat out the innings and leave his team with 34 in 10 overs.
Shail XI started with Vivek and Ranjan. The two got off to a flying start getting to 18 in three overs. Fourth over bowled by Aamir broke the opening partnership but it was too little too late. Although there was a flurry of wickets, the score of 36 proved too little. Shail XI cantered to victory with Vivek M. remaining not out.
Match 3: 5 Players per team; 8 Overs
Mukund was traded to Shail XI along with debutante Gopi. Vivek2 joined Kalpesh XI. Swagat, Vivek M and Ranjan did not play M3.
Kalpesh 11, Aamir 7
Shail 4, Anil 4
Result: Kalpesh XI wins by 17 runs
A few key players left from Shail XI and the teams were reshuffled with a debutante Gopi playing in Shail XI. Kalpesh XI won the toss and batted first. They opened with Parijat and Kannan, the most consistent pair of the day. Mukund put an early end to the opening stand with the wicket of Kannan. Shail bowled a ripper to Aamir which turned from wide of off stump to knock the leg stump, highlight of the day. With two wickets falling for runouts, Kalpesh XI ended with 30 in eight overs.
Shail XI started well with Shail and Nathan opening the innings. They got to 7 in two overs and the team looked in a good position when all hell broke lose. Nathan lost his stumps to a Parijat beauty. Kalpesh got Shail the next ball. Mukund and Anil paired to try and do the repair work when a brilliant catch by Vivek2 diving forward put an end to Mukund's innings leaving Anil to get 20 runs for an improble win which did not happen.
